Good AI voice automation defines clear stop conditions. Urgency, sensitive topics, low confidence, complaints, and exceptions should move to a human with full context.
Automation should have explicit rules for topics or situations that require a person.
The handoff is strongest when the human receives a concise summary, transcript, reason, and next action.
A transfer rule also needs a destination and a fallback. Define what happens when the target team is available, unavailable, or unable to accept the call.
Test urgent, sensitive, ambiguous, and low-confidence examples, then confirm that the receiving person can see why the call moved and what has already happened.
A transfer event is not automatically a successful handoff. Track whether the destination accepted it, whether the context arrived, what the customer experienced while waiting, and whether an unavailable team produced a queued callback or an unresolved dead end.
